Welcome to my blog…my first in fact, so if you’re reading thank you and bear with me while I work out what I’m doing.
I’m not really sure what my first blog should be about so I’m going to stick with an easy topic, me! I am a HR and Employment Law consultant and have been for about 8 years now, I’m also a Chartered member of the CIPD and well I’m a bit of a HR geek, I love it!! I love getting under the skin of a business, understanding their culture and where their heading and how I can support them to get there.
I also enjoy designing and delivering training, anything from a short session on a single HR topic to full Management Development programmes, seeing people grow over the period of a programme is so rewarding.
I now realise my interest in HR actually started at school with GCSE History (The Factory Acts). I didn’t however know where this was going to take me until I turned up to Keele University for an open day and discovered HRM as a degree subject. Almost by accident, I went along for the talk and made my mind up that day I was going to go into HR. I did end up going to Keele and studying HRM and Sociology.
Despite agreeing whilst at university I’d move back to Essex to be with my boyfriend (now my husband), I found my first HR job in Southampton and moved down there for a year. It was a great first job in an NHS Mental Health Trust with a great HR Manager who helped me kick start my career. She was the perfect first Manager and I grew so much over that year. Once the year was over I headed back to Essex and joined Guys and St Thomas’ HR team before moving onto Girlguiding UK, during which time I completed my Masters in Personnel and Development at the University of Westminster. In 2008 I joined Croner where I stayed until my current role with Wirehouse.
So that’s me, well the HR me anyway, outside of that I’m a mum to 2 little people and a volunteer leader for Girlguiding.
